Introduction

Welcome everyone, to the first official Newsletter of the 2017-2018 year! We would like to begin by respectfully acknowledging that we operate within the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Fall is officially here, and we’re going to hit the ground running. We will be releasing a Newsletter on the first of every month (or the second, if there’s a statutory holiday), chock full of everything LGBTQ2++ happening in and around Nanaimo. Sound good? Yeah it does! So without further ado, we’re going to get right into it – so hold on to your hats, there is a lot of information coming your way!

Board of Directors 2017-2018

On Sunday September 17, 2017, we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Harbour City Theatre in downtown Nanaimo. The main order of business was to elect a new Board of Directors, so the air was thick with antici……..pation. The tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife! (OK, so maybe, just maybe, that’s a gross exaggeration…) The room was actually buzzing with excitement as the nominations were called, declined, and accepted. In the end, the entire board secured their seats by acclamation, and here is the picture of their beautiful faces, together for the first time:

Please join us in giving them a warm welcome, with best wishes for the year ahead!

Community Ambassadors

Ambassadors represent us at parades, social engagements, and more! While this is a volunteer position, Ambassadors each receive a complimentary ticket to ticketed Nanaimo Pride hosted events, and volunteer recognition at our volunteer appreciation party in thanks for their time and commitment. Community Survey

Since we love all of your beautiful smiling faces so much, and we have a shiny new Board of Directors … we’re starting off the year with some much needed community engagement. We have a survey online now where you can tell us what you love, what you don’t love so much, what you’d like to see more of, less of … and we’ve got our listening ears on. We’re handing the floor over to you – have your say in as many or as few words as you like! Thank you so much for taking some time out of your day to give us some feedback. Hugs ‘n love from all of us to all of you!
